Maija Wells

Words sometimes fail me, but physical expression rarely leaves me dissatisfied.

I am a kinesthenic-visual learner--My thoughts come as movement, texture, spacial orientation, forces, torsion, color, shape, taste, and smell. When I get into a dance studio I want to move. When I sit down in my workshop, everything around me wants to move: the found rubber wants to become a rose; the paper is asking to be printed, cut, and shaped, the yarn is yearning to be entwined with a small and beautiful piece of metal.

Everything I make is meant to be seen, worn, used, touched. It is meant to dance with you in your hair, around your neck. If you hang it on the wall, don't just look at it--hold it, feel it move when you walk by, even in passing.
